Update on programme for the year

The history group will restart 2pm Thursday February 17th.I don't think it is a good idea to meet this month thanks to Covid. I expect  that we will be in a better position for face to face meetings next month.

In addition to the monthly meetings (3rd Thursday afternoons) I have been discussing the possibility of setting up a u3a heritage trail to celebrate our 20th anniversary later this year. This will be a separate project involving Hambleton council and other key organisations in Easingwold. I will update you later on this.

Joseph Mountain from Uppleby 1833-1893 & the Victoria Gardens, Totley, Sheffield

Joseph Mountain, from Easingwold  was assuredly one of the great pioneers in the development of a greater Sheffield, possibly not so much with the end in view so much as for his personal well-being

Next meeting Springhill Court, 2pm, Thursday 18th. November "The Easingwold Spring" continued

Hopefully we will be able to return to Springhill Court in 2 weeks (depending on the covid status there) but will contact you if there is a problems.
1. We will continue discussing Issue 3 & 4 of the Easingwold Spring

Issue 5

2. Also want to consider a major project to celebrate our u3a 20th anniversary next year.
One suggestion is to create an Easingwold u3a History & Heritage Trail map & leaflet and I would be interested to know what you think.

Next group meeting Springhill Court, 2pm, Thursday 21st October "The Easingwold Spring"

We pay homage to a previous Easingwold u3a group "The Living History Group" who back in 2005 went out and spoke to older members of the community about their life, family and memories.

The late Keith Wright edited , published & printed 11 magazines between 2005 & 2008 based on this and other contributions, "The Easingwold Spring - A miscellany of the recent history of our town and people"

Archives  from the library were scanned and posted by Frank on the Easingwold History Facebook Group  generation a lot of interest and discussion.

We now have the opportunity to look back, read and share this great collection.

Have a look at the first 3 issues and share anything you found interesting for discussion on Thursday.  I will have additional copies for the meeting.

We will be meeting at Springhill Court, so please take precautions to reduce the risk of spreading Covid.

There will be a small charge £1 to cover room hire & refreshments.

Issue 1 March 2005

Issue 2 July 2005
