Possible homework for Thursday 15th. (not compulsory but useful)
Now is chance to start finding out more, either using resources below or visiting some of the local parish churches and then sharing with others
  • Choose a parish or parish church (Easingwold, Hustwaite, Alne &  Stillington)
  • Find one historic fact that you think most people will know about
  • Find one historic fact that you think no one will know about
  • Take a picture of something interesting
  • Email me your results before (not necessary, can still bring to the meeting) and I can pull together for the meeting.

 Local parishes & their churches

I have pulled together a number of different resources that will help anyone interested in wanting to find out more about our local parishes.
Local Village History Groups - on Right Sidebar of Blog (Local History Groups)
Other Yorkshire History & Archaeology Links - on Right Sidebar (More Information)
Parishes in Easingwold Rural District 1950 - on Right Sidebar (More Information)
Library & On Line References - on Right Sidebar (More Information)
This last page really interesting (I think). gives information on local library resources but also 2 websites with lots of parish histories
The history of  The County of York North Riding: Volume 2. Originally published by Victoria County History, London, 1923 (ANCESTRY UK)
Index to North Riding Parishes (GENUKI)
Also note that you should have free access to Ancestry uk and Genuki via your library card. However do not need membership to access the parish details.

Other people have done the hard work and all we have to do is do is do is read what they have done
